The ERH Maternity Unit offers a friendly environment with caring and professional staff to assist with antenatal, birthing and early parenting experience.

Echuca Regional Health operates as a level 3 Maternity service providing comprehensive maternity care for women with normal low risk pregnancies. Offering care  for planned births from 37 weeks gestation.  Our Newborn capability service operates as a level 2 service providing care for mildly unwell newborns.from 37 weeks gestation including short term care for minor conditions not requiring specialist medical treatment.

ERH Maternity unit partners with PIPER (Paediatric Infant Perinatal Emergency Retrieval ) for transfer of unwell infants requiring specialist care.

To have your baby at ERH, it is necessary that you first book in, ideally between 14-20 weeks.  Please visit your GP to determine your suitability to birth at Echuca and arrange a referral.  Once the referral is received a midwife will make contact to schedule a booking time.  A self-referral can be accepted, but only if you have a copy of your pathology and ultrasounds reports.

At your first doctor’s visit your weight and height will be recorded and your body mass index (BMI) calculated. If your BMI is over 40, for your health and safety you will be referred to another larger facility for your birth. Additionally Echuca Regional Health is a low risk facility and therefore accepts women birthing over 37 weeks gestation with minimal complications. You can discuss this with your GP/Obstetrician throughout your pregnancy.
