How to refer your patient
We accept GP and specialist referrals for all Specialist Clinics for patients 18 years+ that need exclusively Spirometry, DCLO, lung volume, FENO testing.
The clinic can perform comprehensive respiratory assessment including patient education.
Referring clinicians must comply with statewide referral criteria for all referrals.

Referrals must include reason for referral AND all of the following as available:
- Indication what the respiratory test is for (COPD, Asthma, ILD or other)
- GP medical summary/past medical history
- What test is required (Spirometry, DLCO, Lung volumes, FENO).
- That inhalers can be withheld on the day of testing.
- Medical history
- Relevant medication
Referrer must check and clear any contraindications:
- No abdominal, thoracic, neuro, ocular surgery past 4/52
- No pneumothorax past 6/52
- No myocardial infarction past 6/52
- No pulmonary embolus past 6/52
- No known thoracic, abdominal or cerebral aneurysm
- No COVID-19 past 4/52
- No active infection within 4 weeks
- No open pulmonary TB
- No known history of syncope w forced expiration/cough
- Angiogram in previous 24 hours
- Haemoptysis of unknown origin
- Transbronchial biopsy in previous 24 hours
- Intercostal catheters in situ
- Unstable cardiovascular status
- Inability to follow instructions
- Physical limitations preventing upright posture

Referrals which do not meet the Statewide Referral Criteria may be declined.
The demand on the Respiratory Medicine Clinic is high, consequently, waiting times for this clinic can be quite lengthy.
