Infection Control

What We do

At Echuca Regional Health, we are committed to keeping our patients and visitors safe by preventing the spread of infections. Our Infection Prevention and Control team works hard to minimise the risk of transmission of infections and the development of antimicrobial resistance. Everyone working at or visiting ERH facilities has a role to play.

Infection prevention is part of the high standard of care we provide, our infection prevention approach focussing on key components, including:

  • Adhering to infection prevention policies and procedures
    • Maintaining the cleanliness of our healthcare facility
    • Our hand hygiene program
    • Immunisation for staff
    • Appropriate use of antibiotics.
  • Continuous monitoring to identify areas for improvement.

This includes:

  • Ongoing surveillance of significant germs
    • Tracking surgical site infections for common and major procedures
    • Monitoring other healthcare-associated infections.

We also provide consumer information on common vaccines to help protect our community from infectious diseases.
